AL JAZEERA, FROST OVER THE WORLD
15th April 2009
To whom it may concern
Elizabeth Haruna
Lizzy worked with us at the Al Jazeera English programme Frost over the World for 4 weeks in spring 2009.
I can honestly say that everyone here, from Sir David Frost through to the entire production team, found Lizzy a delightful member of our team; resourceful, quick-thinking and imaginative. On her very first week, I asked her to research, write and oversee an interview with the former Nigerian president Obasanjo. She worked diligently and successfully at the task.
One of the most daunting challenges facing a researcher on live programmes is the trickiness of some live guests. When, for example, Ann Widdecombe MP began making a voluble and demonstrative fuss in the Green Room, it fell to Lizzy to deal with the problem. She did so with calm and maturity.
I would not hesitate to recommend Lizzy to any News and Current Affairs operation which has a vacancy for a hard-working and enthusiastic researcher.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
I confirm that Elizabeth Haruna undertook some work experience with the South Bedfordshire News Agency in the Spring of 2009 and immediately impressed all those who came into contact with her. She 'shadowed' our reporters on a variety of stories and demonstrated a willingness to learn and take on board the advice and tips we gave her.
Lizzie showed an enthusiasm that was genuine and refreshing. She wasn't afraid to ask for help and it quickly became apparent that she was someone with potential. She has a lively mind, is deeply interested in what is going on in the world today and comes across as a positive young lady.
She also seems trustworthy and reliable and with a maturity that belies her age. Within a few days of meeting her, I concluded that she was able to handle some reporting assignments on her own.
Lizzie has an engaging personality that people warm to and I feel any organisation taking her on will soon realise what an asset they have in her.
On her first morning with us we went to an arson attack on a mosque. There were reporters present from the BBC and the national press and we were impressed at the way she handled herself in their company, introducing herself without any prompting from us.
She is a hard worker too. She was willing to put in extra hours at home after being with us during the day, updating stories and emailing them over.
