This page is dedicated to the poems of Aaron
Braund.... Enjoy
But first... a bit about the budding poet!
I'm a 22 year old Creative Writing and Journalism student studying at the University of Bedfordshire. My hobbies are generally writing and reading (especially Stephen king) if i'm reading poetry I tend to read alot of avant garde poetry like Edwin Morgan. But I love reading any kind of poetry generally. People who have influenced my poetry are Roger Mcgough and Carol Ann Duffy, I like there witty styles but the dark overtones of Sylvia Plath have also made an impact on me. Generally now I use poetry as a therapeutic device when I have alot of pent up emotion. For now and the foreseeable future I want to write fiction, short stories, flash fic etc but my greatest ambition is to write a novel.
But who knows? Maybe one day I'll start writing some more poems when I'm more matured.
Now, for the poems...
Envisage Babylon Sirens howling below a burning sky A sun crumbling away, turns to ash
New sound compliments the demented cry
Blood stains the streets, an irritating rash. The sound, an echo scraping the
smeared stones Of buildings liquid, silver drops from
wounded sheep
A town painted with the palette of death, bones
Embellish the pavement, A mirror rippling, deep. Caped in fire, winds prowl over a
ruined dream The sound? Blazed children paddling in
a stream
Scream
Scream -By Aaron Braund *
The idea for this poem came when the author
was walking down a street from a chip shop and a child screamed, a siren shrieked
overhead. Suddenly, an image flashed into the poet's mind. He wrote
down what he saw. - Imagery plays a big
part in this poem. Which images do you find most striking and why? Roulette Click. Click. Click. Click. Click. Bang (At least the world will know,
how smart you truly were,) - By Aaron Braund Sorrow * Sorrow, Sorrow like rain
Congregation of Nimbus, a darkening hals.
Clouds torpidly roll across a maddening sky.
In mutual sadness, ambivalent tears moisten
Our fractured earth. Sowing the bulbs of sorrow
Seeds of melancholy. The laughter, muffled by tears. By Aaron Braund. *Li Bo, Tang dynasty (Chinese proverb)
